Port
Royal Privateers is a club whose members share a passion for the history,
adventure and romance of piracy in the Caribbean during the 17th and 18th
centuries.
Founded in 1993, PRP is based in Southern California. Members
have varied interests including: acting and improvisation, costuming, blackpowder
weapons, period games, nautical arts, sailing, singing, swordplay, and writing.
PRP
is well known for interacting with the public, encouraging visitors to join
in a song or game, handing out souvenir "pirate treasure" to children, or
just engaging folk in conversation; our primary objective is to create fun
for ourselves and our audience.
The club's
schedule consists of select maritime events and Renaissance-type festivals
from Ojai to San Diego. Workshops and other members-only events are also
held throughout the year.
PRP is self-governed
by an elected board, and members agree to abide by a set of club guidelines.
Every two years, members elect an Encampment Director, an Event Coordinator,
a Secretary, and a Treasurer.
The club's set of Policies & Procedures is approved by the membership. It is reviewed regularly, and any amendments are voted on annually by the membership.
Membership
is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who has an interest in pirates,
buccaneers, privateers and the like. Dues are nominal at $30 for the first
family member and $10 for each additional member at the same address. Paid membership includes a subscription discount to
No Quarter Given. If you are interested in membership, read our Policies & Procedures, then complete an application and send it to us. Our Applicant's Guide describes the application process in greater detail.
